Something so profound happened at church that I have to tell you about it!
I was praying for a man at the altar. Two smaller children were with him, politely staying occupied at his feet. The prayer time was emotional, and I could sense the Spirit moving in this man’s life, comforting him and encouraging him. When we were finished, the little girl who was with him looked up at me. She had a trail of tears running down her face. I was shocked! I didn’t realize she was even paying attention.
I decided to kneel down and talk with her. Through her tears she said, “Thank you. Thank you for creating a place like this where people can be loved and cared about! Just…thank you!” I was stunned. I had no words to respond except, “Thank you, sweetheart.” My voice stuck in my throat and I felt her message spear my heart. I needed her words. I needed her ministry to me.
Today I pass her words on to you. As she spoke, I knew her message was also for the many others building families and churches. You don’t get to hear those words enough, but they’re important! Thank you for creating a place for hearts to be heard, a place for people to come home to God!
Each week you strive to find ways to communicate the message of love and hope. Each week you strain to lead people and love people. You never know who is watching and you never know who is finding hope in the songs, the prayers, and the messages. The truth is, they are watching you and your work is valued even when they don’t give you the “thank you” directly.
The girl’s words reminded me of this scripture in Hebrews 12:28 “Therefore since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and worship God…”
The Kingdom is Unshakable
The kingdom we are busy building is unshakable! It’s moving forward under the power of God’s love and by His Spirit. It rests firmly on His shoulders, and in the midst of all our work and service we can let Him carry the burden.
Today as you strategize, pray, work, and plan may you hear the “thank you” that this little girl passed on to me. May you know that your labor is valuable. Your compassion and dedication to build a church family where people are loved and known is going to pay off when hearts open up to connection with God! Don’t grow weary…don’t hold back!
May you stand tall in the truth that the kingdom you labor in is unshakable! It is strong and it will prevail. We will prevail as we continue in persistent leadership and consistent pastoral care. I am grateful for the many men and women who bravely build church families. I am grateful that you don’t give in to the doubt, the exhaustion, the lies and the fears. May you fight on with courage and determination with an unshakable vision for people to come home to God.
