"The Rising has been a safe place for those exiting the Mormon faith to learn about Jesus Christ in a very different environment than they are used to."
- Pastor Josh Blair
From time to time we'll be highlighting members of our CPD family to get to know them better. The questions and answers below are from an interview with Pastor Joshua Blair at The Rising in Utah.
Please give us a brief introduction.
I grew up in Canada and moved to the US the first time in 2001. I’ve been in full-time ministry for almost 20 years as a Youth Pastor, Missionary (Poland), Executive Pastor and am currently the Lead Pastor of The Rising in Draper, Utah (since July 2016). Lora and I have been married 19 years and have three teenagers, Leia, Beckham and Lexi. We love the outdoors, hanging with friends by the BBQ and summiting the big peaks of Utah.
What drew you into full time ministry?
I did not grow up in a Christian home, but came to faith in high school. At the end of high school I decided to go to Bible College for a One Year Certificate and intended on transferring to a College or University after that. God got a hold of my life while in Bible College and called me to minister to youth. I finished my undergrad and entered into full-time Youth Ministry soon after graduating and have been serving the Lord ever since!
What are you most passionate about in your ministry?
I am most excited to preach and teach in ministry and second to that is raising up leaders to lead in ministry!
Tell us a little about the church you are in, or about the ministry you are involved with.
The Rising is a young church of about 11 years. Located in a suburb of Salt Lake City. The Rising has been a safe place for those exiting the Mormon faith to learn about Jesus Christ in a very different environment than they are used to. We are relaxed, relational, have a cafe and worship in an upbeat and contemporary way.
What are you dreaming about for the future?
We are in a rented warehouse space tucked away in a light industrial area and we would love to own a space on a more visible roadway. We are also praying that God would continue to grow us deeper and wider.
Please share with us a faith story about what God is doing.
Having been here shy of two years we are really encouraged by the engagement and commitment of those who call The Rising their church home. We don’t have membership at The Rising, instead we have Ownership, because ownership is about partnership. It is exciting to see people commit and engage as partners! In 2018 we’ve had new people come into Ownership every month! We’ve also seen over a dozen people baptized in 2018!
How can we pray for you?
Please pray that God would guide us into our next space and that we would continue to be effective in reaching the lost and discipling the committed.
We would love to be able to share your thoughts with our CPD family. If you write a blog, or do other forms of writing, we'd like to consider utilizing you as a guest blogger. Please contact us if you're interested!
