From time to time we'll be highlighting members of our CPD family to get to know them better. The questions and answers below are from an interview with Pastor Edgar Castro, Casa de Dios Church.
Name: Edgar S. Castro
Church: Casa de Dios Church
Years in Ministry: 17 Years
Please introduce yourself:
I was born in El Salvador. I’m married to Nubia who is my Princess. Also, I have two kids - my boy Nahbi who has a great gift of drawing, turned 9 years old on May 4th. And my little Princess, Adara who is a real princess to me, will be 5 years old on July 30th.
What drew you into full time ministry?
To me, this is a very tough question, because when I have the opportunity to see other people and how much time they put into the ministry, I ask myself, “am I called to full time ministry?”
I think every believer at some point in their life should ask the question, Am I called to full-time ministry?
Something that I know is that every believer is called to ministry. Even if you are not called to full-time ministry. Every believer is called to do something in their church. You are called to do something in your church. In the book of Ephesians 4:16 it says, when each part is working properly, the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. It is only by every person or church member doing ministry that the church can grow and build itself up in love. If we remove one person from ministry the entire body suffers. If you are not faithfully serving in your church, no matter your age or ethnicity, you are hurting your church. Just remember, whether you are called to full-time ministry or not, you are called to ministry.
What are you most passionate about in your ministry?
I have two answers for this question. One is the people. I work with the Hispanic community and I see the need of love and understanding for my people. And my second answer is Jesus. Many times I hear from our missionaries, “This is not about me - it‘s all about Jesus.” This is the only way I can express my passion for the ministry.
Tell us a little about the church you are in.
I have the privilege to work with a Hispanic church where the people are so humble, honest and loyal. Our congregations may not be a big mega church in numbers, but it is a mega church in love. With a group of about 40-50 members, we have showed love for the community and helped people from other countries. For instance, we helped churches in Guatemala, El Salvador, Mexico, Cuba and now we have a great partnership with Cambodia. I describe a church with a big heart as having the heart of Jesus.
What are you dreaming about for the future?
To me the future is now. We have so much that needs to be done in the present that the only future is to be with my Lord Jesus Christ in the right time – but I hope to have enough time to accomplish my journey here on the earth. What I mean is that here in this life there is no better future than today.
