"The reason I can say it was Him and not myself wanting to do this, is because the church is still alive and well after 29 years."
- Rev. Gilberto Medina

From time to time we'll be highlighting members of our CPD family to get to know them better. The testimony below is from an interview with Rev. Gilberto Medina.

My name is Gilberto Medina and I was born in Mexicali Baja California, Mexico. My parents brought us to live in the USA in the year 1975. My family consists of 13 brothers and sisters, so it was a great sacrifice what my parents were willing to do for a better future for the Medina family.

God started to show up in our lives there in Mexicali, but in those years the gospel was not as spread out as it is today. Thank God for the work that many of our “gringo” brothers have and continue to do in the country where I was born.

Once my family and I arrived in Soledad, CA most of us committed our lives to Christ in the months to come. It was there, as teenagers, where God put in our hearts a great passion for singing and also for the preaching of his word. My brothers and I formed a Christian band and we named ourselves The Medina Brothers, recording our first album in 1980 and the second album in 1984.

It was 1989 when I felt the calling to plant a church (I know - easier said than done!) but God showed up in the lives of my wife and I in a way that I had never expected him to show up. By that time, I knew for sure that I could work for Him and be obedient to His call. Together with my wife and kids, we started to visit a couple of families that God had prepared for us to help start his church in the city of King City, CA. The reason I can say it was Him and not myself wanting to do this, is because the church is still alive and well after 29 years.

I joined the CMA after 8 years of working as a non-denomination church. That decision was a great blessing because we belonged to a group of people that cared for each other and we shared the same burden for the lost. Currently, myself, my wife, children, and grandchildren are living in Henderson NV, near Las Vegas. We’ve been her for almost 12 years.

By the grace of God, I am an ordained pastor in our Alliance Pacific District. My ministry consists of spreading the gospel through the music and songs I’ve been able to record. I have 5 CDs and visit churches throughout different states in the U.S., as well as a few other countries God has opened doors for me to visit including Mexico, Central America and Cuba. I have the blessing to be bilingual in Spanish and English, so sometimes I also minister among my “gringo” brothers - and I consider that a tremendous blessing.

Thanks for taking the time to read my testimony. I believe God has a specific purpose for this. May God bless your ministries also. We appreciate your prayers for us.
